Cultural Navigation Unit Supervisor

Sparked by a passion for improving health equity around the globe, Tavia Mirassou-Wolf earned her bachelor's and master’s in public health and has worked on a variety of projects in the U.S. and abroad, some of which include; HIV/AIDS education, research on a train-the-trainer course for mental health awareness and support in rural Uganda, and safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices in rural Cambodia. Tavia has been with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment since 2018 and joined the Newcomer Health Program as the Cultural Navigation Unit Supervisor in October 2022. The Cultural Navigation Unit strives to engage navigators to support public health teams in working towards culturally relevant public health responses and initiatives. 


High-level goals of the cultural navigation unit include providing direct cultural navigation support for public health responses and grassroots education, exploring additional models for navigation in public health, providing recommendations to diverse agencies for engaging cultural navigators to improve cultural relevance and equity, exploring potential standardization of training and capacity-building opportunities for navigators who are working in the context of public health.
