Colorado consistently ranks among the states with the highest immunization exemption rates in the United States, with nearly 95% of exemptions being made for personal, not medical, reasons. Due to the high level of safety and community protection provided by vaccines, many professional medical organizations acknowledge that the only legitimate reason for exempting from immunizations is for medical purposes. Despite the evidence for strengthening exemption policies, Colorado has struggled in passing meaningful pro-immunization policy.
