Unhealthy beverages such as sugary drinks are a major contributor to childhood obesity, a growing epidemic. Many children’s meals for 12 and under at restaurants include a sugary beverage, and about 42% of children aged two to nine eat fast food daily. We evaluated the extent of unhealthy beverages as part of standard children’s meals in Colorado and will discuss opportunities to improve nutritional content of beverages included in restaurant children’s meals.
