Public health professionals can work with local planning departments to adopt a public health chapter into a municipality's comprehensive planning document, which provides a long-term vision for a community’s future actions. Infusing goals aimed at reducing health disparities, and adding upstream policies that explicitly establish a link between traditional planning components and health allows communities to include public health priorities in decision making around the use of public funds, tax policies, and other pressing issues.
